Consultation and guidance
Manitoba Ombudsman is available for consultation and guidance.
Ombudsman Act related consultation and guidance can include information on best practices and applying fairness principles and standards in your public body administration and suggesting which of our existing tools and resources may be useful to you.
Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act related consultation can include guidance on your developed policies and procedures and providing any of our tools and resources that may be useful.
Manitoba Ombudsman is available for specific consultation and guidance on issues relating to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Act. During these consultations we may discuss factors to consider in interpreting and applying provisions of FIPPA and PHIA, provide guidance on best practices to follow, and refer them to investigation reports or practice notes or other resources on our website. Although we cannot provide an advance ruling on a matter (since we may receive a complaint about the decision the public body or trustee ultimately makes) we can provide advice to assist them in their decision-making process.
We also initiate informal consultations with public bodies when we learn of new initiatives or programs with potential privacy impacts so we can understand the steps being taken by the public body to address privacy implications.
To request a consultation please contact ombudsman@ombudsman.mb.ca.
