Sep 27, 2010

For the fifth year, the Manitoba Ombudsman's office has joined with other information and privacy commissioner offices from across the country to celebrate Right to Know Day on September 28 and Right to Know Week from September 27 to October 1, 2010. Right to Know is celebrated in over forty countries around the world. It acknowledges an individual's democratic right of access to government-held information and promotes the benefits of open, accessible, and transparent government.

During Right to Know Week 2010:

  • The Province of Manitoba has proclaimed Right to Know Week.
  • Ombudsman Irene Hamilton will attend the office of Brandon Mayor Dave Burgess on September 27 to witness the signing of the City of Brandon's Right to Know Week proclamation. Brandon joins the cities of Dauphin, Flin Flon, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk, and Thompson, in proclaiming Right to Know Week.
  • If anyone has questions about their right of access to government-held information, or if they would like to learn more about access to information in general, visit the national Right to Know website at www.righttoknow.ca for the opportunity to participate in daily online chats with information commissioners from across the country.
