Jul 22, 2014

The 2014 Manitoba Connections: Access, Privacy, Security and Information Management Conference will be held October 6-7, 2014 at the Delta Hotel in Winnipeg.

"Public expectations around government transparency and accountability are changing," said Acting Manitoba Ombudsman Mel Holley. "The ability to deal with the demand for access to government records is going to be critical to the success of government of all levels in the future. Those who embrace enhanced transparency will be the most successful,” said Holley. “At the same time, the public expects government to be respectful of the privacy of their personal information and to ensure its security and safekeeping. Those are reasonable expectations.”

"Access and privacy doesn't have to be complicated. Hosting this conference is an opportunity for us to bring people together to discuss the relationship between access, privacy, security and records management - systems which are sometimes seen as separate but which in reality are all connected. Together we can develop and refine our systems so that they work effectively for everyone involved."

The conference, hosted by Manitoba Ombudsman, will bring together a diverse and talented group of presenters and trainers for a program that includes everything from basic access and privacy training to broader discussions about the state of access and privacy law, the protection of our health information, employee privacy and technological advances that will change how access, privacy, security and information management systems work.

With a series of five plenary presentations and a selection of 16 different breakout sessions to choose from, attendees will be able to customize their own learning path. Additionally, there are three optional half-day pre-conference workshops being held the morning of October 6.

Attend the conference to:

  • Learn about the latest issues and trends in access, privacy, security and information management.
  • Find practical solutions to help meet information challenges.
  • Network and make connections with colleagues in other fields or organizations.
