Manitoba Ombudsman Barry Tuckett announced today that comments in connection with the review of The Freedom of Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) are being made available publicly on the office's web site. To accommodate those who may not have reasonable access to the office's web site, photocopies may be obtained by contacting the Ombudsman's office.

These Acts are currently under review by the Manitoba Government in accordance with section 98 of FIPPA and section 67 of PHIA. Public hearings for the legislation were held between February 9 to May 11 led by the Honourable Jim Rondeau for PHIA and by Ms Kerri Irvin-Ross for FIPPA. Mr. Tuckett's comments were requested by the Minister of Culture, Heritage and Tourism and the Minister of Healthy Living.

Created in 1970, the Office of the Manitoba Ombudsman exists to promote fairness, equity and administrative accountability through independent and impartial investigations and legislative compliance reviews.
